Is Infoworld after my privacy?

Infoworld seems to be breaking new ground, but not in any good way. Visiting the website a few minutes ago, Firefox presented me with this security prompt which I have never seen before (click to enlarge):

Infoworld

Why would the site require the ability to "read private data from any site or window"?

And what does that mean in practical terms?

I'm assuming you aren't using NoScript -- I don't get that warning dialog in Firefox, but do get a NoScript block.

I haven't looked at the HTML source yet, but will do so real soon now. :-)

On second thought, it's a lost cause -- there's more JavaScript on the main InfoWorld page than anyone can possibly justify.

It's a sad commentary on security:

"To enjoy this page, disarm yourself and prepare to be exploited."

*sigh*

Thank you Fregie - also for posting the screenshot of the Infoworld source page on your blog: http://fergdawg.blogspot.com/2007/08/is-infoworld-after-my-privacy-or-worse.html
