Microsoft admits: OneCare sucks
Microsoft is going through the dust over its failing OneCare security suite. Over the past months the application got pounded when in several tests when it failed to detect several known online pests.
At the time Microsoft PR gave the cautious answer that they are trained to give when bad news hits: "we are currently studying the results of the test," they claimed.
That inquiry apparently has been concluded, and Microsoft saw the poor results in all their horror.
To further underscore the failure of Microsoft Onecare, the company started hiring security researchers from established security vendors such as McAfee to clean up the mess after OneCare had launched. A blog posting in which the security team confesses to its security failure was authored by Jimmy Kuo. As recent as last July, Kuo was working for McAfee Avert Labs, as is witnessed by this blog posting.
Kuo's posting is tiptoeing around the failure of Onecare, but he makes an excellent suggesting for people who might consider purchasing the software: "So it’s also about making sure our customers *feel* better protected when using our products." Which inherently implies that today, that isn't the case.

I installed One Care in August of 2006. It promptly crashed my Laptop and took me literally hours in direct contact with MS techs in Nova Scotia if try to fix it. Finally they gave up and helped me completely reboot my machine. Luckily I had backed up important info. They also refunded my money after I cancelled my subscription. But, MS just tried to rebill me a year later because I "gave" them the right to rebill me each year and didn't change it even though I cancelled the original subscription. Of course you have to call a rep at a hard to find the number to cancel the subscription, and of course they aren't open on weekends. SUCKS!

I bought Winders Vista Ultimate 64 installed it on my quad core. Bought One care. Said on the box.... Winders Vista Ultimate. Went to install is and it said Sorry won't work on Winders Vistaass 64. Wow Just spent 40 bucks for nothing. Cant return it already opened it. I guess I can use it to prop open my window in my bedroom. Microsoft just doesn't get it. I use AVG Free for now. Will probably go to AVG Full version. Well Bill you got a fraction added to your net worth, how does it feel. I know that I feel a large pain in my rear end!!!! Buyers beware. If you have vista 64 of any kind. There are many virus programs out there that just say Vista or vista ultimate but dont say 32 only. It is misleading. Once you buy the software and open it you are stuck with it. I also called the company Rino soft. Yes I bought another virus program. It too didn't work. It said vista ultimate. Didn't say 32 or 64. I then went to install it and oh no only on 32. I contacted the company. They said they were going to refer my reply for support to marketing. WHAT!! Marketing, I didn't want support for the lettering on the box!!! I wanted support for the product not working on my vista 64. I have not heard from the since and that has been about 6 months ago. How sad.So now I have an Apple 8 core. I run LEopard and don't have anti virus programs. Liberty at last.

Wow MS One Care auto ruined my computer. It decided XP Service Pack 2 was working too well and auto installed Service Pack 3 and now computer thinks it's new machine nad I have a dial-up internet connection.
Congratulations to Microsoft for once again letting me down nad reminding me to look for alternatives. Does anyone have any idea why MS wants it customers to leave?
