Apple sets sail for the living room (video)
Apple is heading for a head-on collision with TiVo and Intel Viiv now that the company plans to unveil its iTV settop box. It is set to launch some time early next year under a different name, Apple chief executive Steve Jobs said.
Apple unveiled the device today at a company event in San Francisco. It uses a television to play movie trailers that are streaming off the internet as well as video and audio content from the iTunes store.
Speaking of iTunes, the application today was expanded with movie downloads (as expected). A download will cost between $14.99 and $9.99. Its collection is limited to 75 movies for now, all of which come from Disney owned studios (Steve Jobs of course is on the Disney board and is the company's largest single shareholder).
