Toys on display at Intel Developer Forum

How to spark growth in the PC industry? Why, with innovation of course. Innovation for Intel can be more then faster, more energy efficient chips. Industrial design for one is a proven way to create a market out of thin air.

Maloney Enter the concept design: devices that Intel (and other technology providers such as Microsoft) develop to show a new capability. Intel's general manager of the mobile business Sean Maloney showed off this laptop that has a sliding display that makes for easier DVD viewing. If you've ever tried to use a laptop in economy class (it barely fits), you'll understand which problem this devices solves. (click image for larger version)

Next comes the WiMAX scooter, which Intel claimed is the first working WiMAX setup in the US. The scooter has a touch screen display installed and a laptop attached to the back. A webcam streams live video feeds over the internet. Needless to say that you'd want to take this toy out in the California summer only.

Speaking of WiMAX, the technology is set to merge with Wi-Fi in about three years, Maloney predicted. To allow for a smooth transition, the company has created a radio that combines both technologies.
